Item Writing Course

The National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE) Item Writing Workshop is being hosted by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT) on Wednesday September 16 and Thursday September 17, 2026.

This 2-day workshop is designed for clinicians and educators who have been licensed for at least two years. Participants will learn about NPTE development and how to write NPTE items. Participation in the workshop is eligible for CEU credit.

Development of the NPTE is an important component of the Federation’s mission to protect the public by providing service and leadership that promote safe and competent physical therapy practice. Contributing as an Item Writer for the NPTE is critical in supporting this mission. A $200 stipend will be provided to item writers once they have generated 20 items that have successfully passed review.
